Jr. Kindergarten comes to the end

Jr. Kindergarten was a great success! Rhett had a great year, learned and grew so much.  We are thankful to his wonderful teacher and all she did everyday!  Great job Rhett!

Easter 2013

Happy Easter!

Dirtbike Riding in the Desert

We went dirt bike riding in the desert and it was a blast!  Rhett did great riding his 50 and I liked it quite a bit myself.  Randy is a happy man, we are a dirt bike riding family.  I just want a quad for myself instead of a bike even though they laugh at me for it.

The beach is so much better than school!

We have a different spring break than our Camarillo cousins so when it was there spring break and they went to the beach  . .  . we left school early and went to!

A limp that wouldn't go away!

Rhett started limping.   We asked him if he got hurt at school or something but he said no.  We decided to watch it and see what happened.  It would come and go and sometimes was worse than others.  One day he woke up and wouldn't move!  He wouldn't even sit up because he was in so much pain.  We immediately called the doctor and made an appointment for that morning.  We spent the day doing lab work and x-rays and then going back to the doctors office for readings.  When they told me I needed to drive to Santa Barbara to see a pediatric orthopedist that day and that there was a chance Rhett could be admitted to the hospital, I got nervous.  We drove to SB and saw the doctor who thankfully ruled out admitting Rhett.  Phew!! There are three things it could be 1. an infection in his hip joint, which is what the doctor first ruled out.  2. perthes 3. synovitus.  After ruling out the infection the plan was to wait it out for a couple of days and see what happened.  A couple of days later he was still in pain and so we had to schedule an MRI.  At first they wanted to sedate him for the MRI to ensure he would be still but it was going to take 2 weeks to get in.  We talked to him about doing an MRI without sedation and he agreed, with a little bribery of course!  He did great!!!!  Randy went back with him for the MRI and I was sitting out in the waiting room.  It took forever!!  But toward the end I could overhear the nurses talking about how good he was and what a cute boy he was.  It made me feel good.  The next morning we got the results and thankfully it was Synovitus, the least serious of the possible diagnoses.  Synovitus is a virus that settles in the hip and causes fluid in the joint.  The presence of fluid causes pain and restricts the mobility of the joint. We were so relieved to have a diagnosis and that it was the least serious!  The plan now was for Rhett to be "grounded" no running, jumping, biking, swimming, etc. for 2 weeks.  Sounds like a blast, right?!  Well considering the alternative diagnosis, Perthes, was up to 5 years of bed rest and being "grounded" 2 weeks instantly sounds like no big deal.  We spent a lot of time playing Legos and watching movies.  We extended his grounding  a little bit to try to help ensure that he would be okay. After the grounding he can resume  normal activity but if the limp returns then he would have to be put under and have the fluid removed.  The fluid would then be tested and if it should any signs of bacteria or remaining virus they would have to open him up and wash out his hip joint.  We extended his grounding a little to almost three weeks to help ensure he would be okay.  We let him loose to play with the kids and he was fine!  No limping or pain at all!  It was so good to watch him be active again and we are so thankful for the answer to our prayers and so many that prayed for him as well.
Rhett being a monster!  This is how we got through the x-rays.
Randy and I went to school and had lunch dates with Rhett while he was "grounded".  This is one of our lunch dates!

Jersey Day

Jersey Day at school, what else would he wear but his beloved Kobe jersey!
